HEY! Food Parcel Project

Lockdown means no school but also not being able to get porridge early and a meal during breaktime which the schools with feeding schemes provide to many of the 5000 children whom Hey! minister to during the school term. An initiative was started by us to get donations to enable food parcels to be provided to needy families in some of these schools. The idea to give physical bread so to speak, where we normally share Jesus “the Bread of Life” John 6:48 is so exciting. The WCED provides some help which is amazing but the need out there is massive!

John Bunyan’s quote: “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you” in action today!! We asked for donations to enable us to buy food items for needy families of the schools where we minister and we were blessed by people whose hearts were stirred

Children from Danie Ackermann Primary School living in Garden village as well as learners from Temperance Town benefitted. A HUGE shout out to Pick n pay Gordon bay’s owner Mr Ram Moodley, as well as Samantha, Verena, Sam and others there who so kindly helped us with the process. Thank you to principals, Mr Mark Manus and Mrs Zay Windvogel, as well as Jonathan Brown. This was a massive team effort. Praise the Lord!!!

Food parcels were delivered by Hillsong Africa foundation to Chris Nissen park, where many of Danie Ackermann’s children live, as well as Temperance Town Primary School! Thanks to HAF!! We are so grateful! LOVE IN ACTION. Many families will have ingredients for quite a few meals! Families at Altena Primary School, where we usually serve, also received food parcels!

This project will not be possible without donations from people whose hearts are stirred to give and make an impact. To get all these items together, packed neatly for each family, is a huge task done with so much love and care by the Pick n Pay Gordon’s Bay team. Thank you!! The families are overjoyed and we are just in awe of God’s goodness!!

Food parcels went to families in Lwandle as well. They were picked up by Rachel who are one of our facilitators at Danie Ackermann Primary School. She lives there and helped get the food to the families. We are so grateful for sponsors’ donations enabling us to purchase food. Thanks once again to Pick n Pay Gordon’s Bay for sourcing all the items and packing everything for us! Like Mother Teresa said: “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop”. Yes, it is the one that matters!! Thank You Jesus that we can pray that You would multiply these food items.

The Hey! Food parcel project is still going strong thanks to donations as well as cooperation between principals and teachers helping us identify needy families. A look behind the scenes shows Agnes, Anna, Claudine and Berenice of CBP Wholesale hard at work packing all the products. Thank you to Friedel Hamm for all the help with this! May the Lord bless all the people involved and keep them safe and in good health! Without you this would not be possible!!

In Gauteng things have been just as busy. A payment was made to Brentwoodpark Primary School in support of 5 families in desperate need of food parcels. The school also decided to put some money toward an orphanage, ‘Huis Charis’, where a few of their learners reside.

At this stage there are 33 families who still need help in this area.  Please help us to help these families.

Looking back at the last few weeks of the Hey! Food parcel project we can testify of God’s provision and His favour! Making a difference to children whose families are hard hit by the Covid19 pandemic. The numbers so far: 490 families benefitted from food parcels and more than a 1000 children received meals for which Hey! could provide ingredients. Still coordinating with our school principals to guide us which best way to assist in each area!

You can be part of this amazing journey by donating!!!
